Black & Brew Friday: One Year of Brewing / Pipboy Porter 2.0
Super bowl xlviii
Every year our friend Andy puts on Super Bowl party that features a bunch of smoked and grilled meat. This particular Super Bowl we were asked to provide all the beer. We featured our Inlaw Pale Ale (5 gallons), Oak Inlaw Pale Ale (4 gallons), Pipboy Porter and Pipboy Porter: Turkish Coffee (roughly a gallon between the two). Mike also put together our first tap system to make beer pouring a little more "professional" than just a picnic tapper out in the yard. We're happy to report that all of the beer was gone by the time the game ended.
Shits Creek Nut brown ale: batch 001
The beers are normally done as a duo. Mike comes up with the recipe and we both execute the brewing and finishing of the beers. This particular brew was a solo venture of my first recipe. The grain bill includes 2 Row, Caramel and Victory malts and some flaked oats. Since I was doing this on my own, only a few pictures were snapped.
Quick catch up
Mike has been hard at work building a new space for us to brew and store our beer. He built a three tap kegerator and put in a new counter top. We're also, slowly but surely, moving to electric brewing. We also started a brew club with some friends. We also attended the Chicago Home Brewers meeting in April and got to share and sample some good beers.
heather & steve's wedding
What can we say? It was truly an honor to have two of our beers featured at our friends' wedding. We had our NS Pale Ale and Summer Wheat on tap after the bride and groom said "I do." The 10 gallons almost made it all the way through the night, but were completely emptied out by 11 pm.
